GRAFOROTIKA is GRAFODROOM’s printmaking duo on skates : Hannah Harkes smooths on the ink; Mari Prekup applies the pressure, both wearing skates modified to fulfill the function of a printmaking workshop. The idea formed in Balti Jaam market when the sighting and purchase of two matching pairs of red Soviet over-shoe rollerskates interrupted a lively, loving discussion about printmaking. A few wobbly feet down the road, the visionary wheels of the spinning skates mentally collided with the spinning rubber ink roller and the two were cognitively overlaid with the rotating wheel of an intaglio press – ! The duo were quick to call Nils Hint, their local friendly blacksmith, who brought the vision to technical reality. The duo perform live – simultaneously live-printing traditional printmaking plates whilst providing a choreographically spectacular and kinetically delicious feast for the eyes (or falling over) in matching outfits.
